The next game based on the hit novel, manga and anime series Sword Art Online now has a release date.
Sword Art Online Last Recollection follows the story of Kirito playing the hit virtual reality MMORPG Sword Art Online. Yes, you play a game where the player character is playing a game.
Last Recollection is based on the “War Of Underworld” story arc exclusive to this game, with more characters and episodes than ever before to be featured.
Here’s the story blurb for Sword Art Online Last Recollection:
The threat of annihilation draws near for Underworld, a virtual world designed to give birth to the supreme AI known as A.L.I.C.E.
The Final Stress Test served as the beginning of the end… The gate dividing the Human Realm and the Dark Territory has been opened, causing the shadow of war to be cast over the two realms.
Just then, the Dark Knight, accompanied by a young girl, bursts through the gate before Kirito and his companions…
“What’s the difference between the world ending and me dying?” Who is this girl that is seemingly destined to meet a tragic fate? Will she ultimately bring about an unavoidable “end” of all things?
With the answers to such questions shrouded in mystery, a tale of life itself is about to unfold…
To coincide with the release date announcement, publisher Bandai Namco has released a music video for the game’s theme song, “VITA”, performed by ReoNa. The music video uses never-before-seen footage chronicling 10 years of Sword Art Online history, from the anime and the game.
Bandai Namco handles an incredible amount of anime games, as in games based on anime/manga series. More recently, a JRPG adventure based on One Piece, One Piece Odyssey, was released earlier this year (our review here).
Sword Art Online Last Recollection will be out on October 5 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The PC version on Steam will be released one day later on October 6 for Asia.
