“You never see it coming…” goes the catchy battle song for Persona 5, Last Surprise. And The Game Awards 2018 delivered exactly that.
The last world premier game announcement was something related to Persona 5. The trailer revealed that the protagonist from the great JRPG, codenamed Joker, is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
This is the first character of five planned DLC characters. When it was revealed that Smash Ultimate will receive 5 more brand-new characters (since every character from past games are already in), fans poured in with many suggestions, to the point that series director Masahiro Sakurai has to address that all characters have been locked in by the development team.
Each DLC character also includes a stage and soundtrack.
Super Smash Bros. have included characters more famous on other platforms to the series, but unofficial rule that can be seen is that each of them has appeared on a Nintendo system. Just like how Final Fantasy VII’s Cloud Strife appeared thanks to a Nintendo 3DS game (Theatrhythm Final Fantasy), Joker gets in possibly due to Persona Q2.
Though it would be nice to have a version of Persona 5 out on the Switch proper.
Here’s the reveal trailer. No gameplay is yet shown.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is now out on the Nintendo Switch.
