In a wild move, EA and Respawn has made Star Wars Jedi: Survivor available on PS4 and Xbox One, a year after the game originally launched on PS5, PC and Xbox Series X|S.
This is one of the most high-profile example of a game being backported to consoles from a previous generation after releasing on the current one.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor does not offer a free next-gen upgrade. The game on PS4 and Xbox One is sold much cheaper at $50 USD (compared to the standard full price of the last generation that was $60 USD), and locally in Malaysia that’s RM200 (RM49 cheaper than last generation’s full price standard).
Even more interesting, the PS4 and Xbox One versions are seperate releases. For owners of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions, you have to purchase another copy if you are morbidly curious to try this new port. There’s no free last-gen “upgrade” as well.
But there is a cross-gen bundle where you purchase both the new last-gen and old current-gen console versions of Jedi: Survivor as well as copies for the previous game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
EA is one of the few publishers that went all-in when the new generation of consoles arrived by not offering games (outside of EA Sports titles) on PS4 and Xbox One anymore. Need For Speed Unbound, the Dead Space remake and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor are all games released after the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and had no last-gen releases. Until today.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor continues the story of Cal Kestis, one of the few remaining Jedis that managed to survived Order 66. The emotional journey to find a new home is delivered in a package where the combat and linear level design inspired by soulslikes but with a touch of open world platformer adventure in between. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is now available on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, EA App), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
