The dragon flies. Toys For Bob’s first new game since becoming independent from Activision is to work again with Activision on a new Spyro The Dragon game.
Spyro: A Realm Reborn is an all-new game for the purple little dragon that was one of the faces of 3D platforming in the late 1990s first created by Insomniac Games.
This is the first full-fledge Spyro game that’s not a remake (though it had a fantastic one recently thanks to Toys For Bob) in two decades.
The teaser trailer shows little, but we see our little purple dragon has grown up a bit, with a refined design the evolved from Spyro: Reignited Trilogy (and thankfully not derived from the Skylanders series, which Spyro and Toys For Bob were also involved).
Spyro isn’t gliding and hovering anymore, he’s flying properly. Not that he never flew—there were optional mini-games since the original Spyro The Dragon where he can be freely fly in some levels. But Spyro: A Realm Beyond is making flight a core moveset, which will be intriguing to see since the core of Spyro’s gameplay is of a typical 3D platformer that makes use of Spyro’s limited flight abilities where he jumps and glides from platform to platform.
Toys For Bob recently made a full new entry to fellow platformer mascot Crash Bandicoot with Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. So it’s about time Spyro’s getting a new entry as well.
One tidbit of confirmation that comes following the reveal at the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase is that Tom Kenny, the voice of Spyro from Spyro: Reignited Trilogy and the original Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage and Spyro: Year Of The Dragon, will be reprising the role for Spyro: A Realm Beyond.
But where’s Sparx? Spyro’s constant dragonfly companion (and a diegetic health indicator) isn’t seen in the teaser.
Spyro: A Realm Beyond will take flight in Spring (March-May) 2027.
