Are yer ready kids? There’s a new trailer for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds debuted at The Kids’ Choice Awards, revealing a certain sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea to be racing along Sonic and friends from Sega, Atlus and Minecraft.
SpongeBob SquarePants is a playable racer in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. The loveable nerd who is known to fluke his driving test multiple times in hilariously dangerous ways, documented in many an episode of the still-running cartoon series will be driving the Patty Wagon in this arcade racer.
It’s not just SpongeBob, you can also race as his ol’ pal Patrick, and see some of the cameos from the cast in the new Bikini Bottom Course.
This is all part of the SpongeBob SquarePants Pack, Wave 2 of 6 paid DLCs prepared for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. SpongeBob isn’t in the base game. Him and Patrick, like Minecraft’s Steve, Alex and a Creeper, are paywalled behind DLC.
That said, the Season Pass, which includes all 6 waves of DLCs plus three additional characters Nine, Rusty, Dread (as seen in Sonic Prime the Netflix series) are included in the Digital Deluxe Edition.
With the announcement, Sega has updated the new key art of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds to now feature SpongeBob and Patrick. This is going to be like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate where the key art gets busier and busier as more characters are introduced.

The trailer also teases two more crossovers from Nickelodeon shows joining SpongeBob. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Avatar (as in, the franchise that spawn Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend Of Korra) will be coming as well, likely as part of the Season Pass.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is a new arcade kart racer, this time developed in-house by Team Sonic and Sega. The game actually plays more like the chaos you see in Mario Kart, but this game has cross-play across all platforms.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will be out on September 25 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The PC versions on Steam and Epic Games Store in Asia will be released one day later, on September 26.
A pass is required to upgrade the Switch version of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds to the Switch 2 version, though no release date is given yet.
