Sega has announced that Sonic X Shadow Generations has sold over 1 million copies. The latest entry to the high-speed platforming series just launched last week.
The sales includes physical units as well as digital downloads from all platforms.
Sonic X Shadow Generations is a remaster of the 2011 game Sonic Generations that also includes a whole new campaign/game Shadow Generations featuring the blue blur’s edgier rival, Shadow The Hedgehog.
According to Sega, the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise has now surpassed 1.66 billion units overall, though the number also includes free-to-play downloads for its many mobile games.
Sonic The Hedgehog has been Sega’s mascot since its inception with the 1991 game, and today is a transmedia icon featuring in blockbuster movies (Sonic The Hedgehog 3, the movie, is coming to theatres later this year), streaming services (Sonic Prime), and of course in video games.
Between Sega and Atlus (which is under ownership of Sega), the publisher has multiple million-unit-selling games just this year. This includes Persona 3 Reload, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, and Metaphor: ReFantazio.
Sonic X Shadow Generations is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and Xbox Series X|S. Check out our review of the game here.
