Tokyo Xtreme Racer (2025) Is Heading To PS5 In 2026

The new Tokyo Xtreme Racer game, simply titled Tokyo Xtreme Racer and also referred as Tokyo Xtreme Racer (2025), has locked a release date for a release on PS5.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer will be available on PS5 on February 26, 2026.

This will be the first Tokyo Xtreme Racer game to grace PlayStation in more than 20 years, the last being the spin-off title Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer made its surprise return after long being dormant with a Steam Early Access release on PC earlier this year. The game has since left Early Access last September.

For the uninitiated, Tokyo Xtreme Racer has you trawl the Shuto Expressway as you challenge fellow racers on illegal head-to-head duels. It’s not a point-to-point race, as Tokyo Xtreme Racer employs the unique SP battle system where the winner is determined by the racer who can maintain their SP bar while reducing their opponent’s through clean driving and leaving them in the dust far enough. It is as if you’re playing the racing game equivalent of a fighting game, as there are mind games to be had as making the pass on mostly two-lane highways with traffic is not as easy as it seems, and so is handling a tuned car that goes over 300km/h.

Take a look at the snippet from the November 2025 State Of Play Japan broadcast (clipped here by IGN) where the announcement was made:

If you’re pining for that specific feel of racing games made in the 2000s, Tokyo Xtreme Racer (2025-2026) has it all nailed down. We argue it’s a “legacy sequel done right” as it picks up the narrative set of the past games, brought in familiar names and newcomers and feel faithful to the series’ past, for better or worse.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer will be available on PS5 on February 26, 2026. It’s now available on PC (Steam).
