Here’s another info drop for Sega and Sonic Team’s upcoming arcade racer, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. And it’s all about car customisation.
Or rather, vehicle customisation, as these cars do turn into boats and planes on certain parts of some tracks.
First off, the vehicles themselves are made up of three parts, each can be mixed and matched for the optimal stats or just to look cool. The vehicles from Team Sonic Racing reappears, but now they are modular, separated into three parts: Front part, Rear part, and Wheels.
Vehicles still comes in the Speed, Acceleration, Handling and Power types, and you can just use all three parts of the same car.

More car parts can be unlocked by earning Donpa Tickets, something you earn from playing more matches. This in-game currency is used to not only unlock car parts, but also other customisation parts and the previously revealed gadgets.
In addition, cars can be painted with different colours and textures. Even the cockpit can be recoloured.
And not only that, you can stamp on decals as well. There’s a livery editor in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, but hopefully it’s not as limited as seen in the previous Closed Beta.
The vehicle part mix-and-matching certainly gives this game some Mario Kart vibes, more so than ever before. And it’s not a bad thing. Given how online races can go up to 20 players, having variety in the vehicles should make it a fun time to see what other players have created when they race online.
Sonic Racing CrossWorlds has no release date yet but it’s coming to PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
