Smash Ultimate Dominates EVO 2019 Tournament Entries, To Be The Final Game Of The Show Replacing Street Fighter V

EVO 2019 saw some big surprises for games lineup. And now the numbers are in. Evo boss Joey Cuellar has revealed the final entry numbers of all the nine mainstage games at the premier fighting game tournament.

Smash Ultimate utterly dominated the entry numbers at 3492 entries. Following that is Street Fighter V at 1929. Tekken 7 remains stable at 1885 entries. New entrants for this year, Samurai Shodown, Mortal Kombat 11 and Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] (UNIST) at 1719, 1567 and 1156 respectively.

Dragon Ball FighterZ, despite a strong showing last year, has only 1191 entries. The last two games, Soul Calibur VI (742) and Blazblue Cross Tag Battle (640) rounds off the list.

With only one Smash game this year on the main stage (Melee is not present this year), Smash Ultimate garnered the most entries at Evo this year.

With that, Smash Ultimate will be closing the EVO 2019 stage as the last game to be contested on Sunday. The honors of being the last game of the day usually fall on Street Fighter V, being the most popular game at EVO in most years. So this is big, welcomed changed in tradition seen here.

Note that players can enter multiple games, so the numbers here do have an unspecified overlap.

EVO 2019 will be held at the Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, Nevada USA on August 2nd-4th.
