Skull And Bones Delayed To 2024 The Latest

In its recent hype blitz, Ubisoft’s long-in-development ship game Skull And Bones was set for release sometime last November, before a last-minute delay pushed it to March 2023.

But it looks like the upcoming game from Ubisoft Singapore is getting another delay, revealed through Ubisoft’s press release of their January 2023 financial report.

“The additional time has already paid off and brought impressive improvements to its quality, which has been confirmed by recent playtests,” the press release reads. “We believe players will be positively surprised by its evolution.”

As a result, Ubisoft is postponing the release to early 2023-2024, which means the delay moves Skull And Bones out of their 2022 financial year ending this March.

Ubisoft later confirmed the delay on the game’s official social accounts. An upcoming livestream set for January 13 will be revealing new gameplay footage with a focus on the game’s lore.

A game delay is typically welcomed news- it means game developers are afforded more time to further polish up the game and ensure they have the time to do them now rather than having to wait after release.

But when a game that was first announced to the public in 2017, and then five years later finally receives a solid release date, only for it to be publicly delayed twice in five months, that will surely dampen the hype and expectation of everyone but its loyal fans that have been playtesting this open-world pirate ship game.

The idea of a full-blown pirate ship game built around the same mechanics seen in Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag sounds great back in 2013, but has the ship for that set sail already ten years later? Ubisoft reckons the delay is still worth it, so let’s wait and see when Skull And Bones is set for release, for real this time.
