Shadow Arena Gameplay Rework Makes Three-Player Teams The Core Game Mode

Shadow Arena, Peal Abyss’ battle royale game based on their hit MMORPG Black Desert, has received an extensive gameplay systems rework based on player feedback. The game is now balanced for more strategic gameplay and team-based play.

As such, Trio Mode, the three-player teams mode is now the de-facto game mode of Shadow Arena moving forward. All other modes like Solo will now reside in the custom modes selection.

With the game making team-play integral, classes are now introduced: Brawlers (high HP and access to defensive skills), Dealers (your team DPS with quick attacks) and Supporters (dedicated healer). All existing heroes will now fall under these archetypes, with new skills added.

It’s a bold change, but as long as it’s based on player feedback, hopefully this turns out well. Battle royales are a dime a dozen these days, and Shadow Arena has a very specific appeal for it despite being free-to-play (you can get it on Steam now). But if the changes keep people playing, that’s always good.

Pearl Abyss is also developing Crimson Desert, not an MMO, but a single-player open-world action game, coming later this year.
