As promised, the September 2025 State Of Play broadcast showed a gameplay snippet of Saros, Housemarque’s follow-up to the third-person roguelike shooter Returnal.
Unlike Returnal, Saros is more of a roguelite—the marketing tagline “come back stronger” even emphasise this—as you will be unlocking permanent upgrades as you attempt to survive on the lost colony of Carcosa.
Combat is what you’d expected from a follow-up to returnal. A heavy emphasis on dashes to avoid the bullet hell of enemy projectiles, punchy weapons (a shotgun is seen here) and satisfying sounds and visuals to accompany it all. But there are new tricks that protagonist Arjun Devraj has. The Soltari Shield can absorb projectiles, which also charge up your power weapon charge. And another is a second chance system, where with upgrades, you can earn the ability to revive at the point of death immediately and come back stronger. Welcome back, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
There are hints of lore and storytelling. But only little is show to keep us guessing.
Saros will launch on March 20, 2026 on the PS5.
