The Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 is now available in Malaysia. For 2022, the dual-screen gaming laptop designed for work and play has bumped the screen size to 16 inches and sports some other cool new tech, including what’s called a Dual Spec monitor.
The higher-spec version of the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 has this panel, exclusive to ROG devices, which can switch between outputting 4K at 120Hz refresh rate and at Full HD (1080p) at 240Hz.
When it comes to monitor panels, it’s usually a trade-off choice between higher resolution (at slower refresh rate) and vice versa. With the Dual Spec panel, you get both, interchangeable at any time. Wild.
The variant of the Zephyrus Duo 16 without the Dual Spec panel is not too shabby either. It uses what’s called the ROG Nebula HDR, which is spec-wise similar to other ROG Nebula displays but with the addition of 512 Mini LED dimming zones, allowing the panel to reach 1100 nits of brightness.
Performance-wise, both variants are equipped with an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, which is more than enough to run new AAA games like Forza Horizon 5 at max settings at 60fps when running in 1080p resolution.
The secondary display with touchscreen support, the ScreenPad Plus, has a smaller gap to the main display for a bezel-less-like experience. The extra screen can be used for many tasks. Some apps and games have full-on support for the secondary screen (Adobe Premier has a set of knobs and switches that you can access from the screen, and Dying Light 2 also is one game that has support for this. In any case, you can find other use for the secondary screen, like booting up a game of Solitaire whilst waiting for a video to render on the main screen.
