The much-awaited, much-needed new update for Red Dead Online is here, as teased before. The new update adds a new Frontier Pursuits Role: The Naturalist.
The Naturalist see you helping the conservationist Harriet Davenport in tracking down animals and then sedate them. You’ll need a Varmint Rifle and the new Sedative Varmint Cartridges to do this.
But there’s a twist- The Naturalist role can also be played violently as a big game hunter. Hunt these animals instead and turn them in to retired big game hunter Gus Macmillan and you’ll get a different set of rewards.
Harriet gives you different rewards compared to Gus, who gives out new garments and trinkets. You’ll also get access to more new items for the Naturalist role- including a Sample Kit and Animal Field Guide.
You can find Harriet and Gus at the town of Strawberry to begin this Frontier Pursuit.
The update also adds Legendary Animals, previously only available in Red Dead Redemption II. You can find them in free roam or while on Animal Sighting assignments by Harriet.
The update also adds an Advanced Camera purchasable from the catalogue. It has increased mobility and new filters. New weapons include a customisable Improved Bow and the Elephant Rifle.
There are also new free roam events, Legendary Animal Protection (defend a Legendary Animal from poachers) and Wild Animal Tagging (join other players to sedate and tag animals, and also fend off poachers).
The update comes with a new battle pass, the Outlaw Pass No. 3, which has new rewards for free and for those that buys the premium pass.
Red Dead Online also adds new random encounters in this new update, new clothing and more fixes. Full patch notes can be found here.
The new Red Dead Online update is now live on PS4, PC and Xbox One.
