Quick E3 2017 Recap: What Was Announced At Ubisoft’s Press Conference

Ubisoft has always been getting a bad rap with their E3 press conferences in recent years. But for 2017, it was genuinely good. Parts of the goofiness comes out as endearing, big surprises and a good look at new games that will be out pretty soon.

Let us all cherish the year Ubi actually delivered one of the better presentations of the year by recapping what was announced on stage.

The Mario/Rabbids Collaboration Game That Actually Looks Decent

While rumours have circulated about this weird pairing for weeks now, the big reveal at the start is still something we never expected to happen. Miyamoto-san coming out of a fog machine with a gun. The game designer went teary eyed during the briefing. That header image of a plausible ‘iconic’ duo. But most importantly, it looks like a decent XCOM-like turned-based strategy game.

This will surely put the XCOM folks in a weird position since they just announced a new expansion a few hours earlier and now a new competitor is getting a lot of buzz.

To make it even more surreal both XCOM 2’s new expansion and Mario+Rabbids Kingdom Battle will release on the same day.

Big Games Looking Better Than Ever

Assassin’s Creed Origins was first showcased in Microsoft’s briefing, but another look of it is nice. Far Cry 5’s gameplay trailer show a bit of its cheeky side after all the stories surrounding the initial reveal seems to garner controversy for the wrong reason.

Not-So Big Titles Still Getting Some Love

Remember Steep? It may not be that of a big deal but Ubi is willing to give it more love. The Crew 2 takes an odd turn- eschewing the underground racing single player campaign (that their rivals at Need For Speed are embracing) so you could just race ALL the vehicles. We might not care much about Just Dance, but it got some time on stage as well.

While they could just ignore these smaller titles by putting them on the pre-show, Ubi gave them a small spotlight in the main stage. They might be smaller hits for a niche audience but it’s nice they give those games some love.

Big Bombshells

Of course, it would be an underwhelming E3 if we did not receive any big surprises, and Ubisoft delivered. We actually getting a pirate ship combat game that is not tied to Assassin’s Creed made by Ubisoft Singapore: Skull and Bones. Michel Ancel’s long-awaited sequel to Beyond Good & Evil finally got unveiled as a prequel.

Sprinkle in with the weird attempt at the toys-to-life market and two more VR projects, Ubi is going to be fine with new releases.
