PlayStation announced an upcoming livestream presentation happening tonight, 11 PM Malaysia time (+8 GMT).
The “PS5 Technical Presentation” will be hosted by Mark Cerny which will focus on “PS5 and innovations in gaming technology”.
This is a rather omnious, and also sudden, development of news, if you don’t follow the rumour mill.
The last time Mark Cerny provided a technical presentation, it was for a deep dive into the specs of then-new PS5. Cerny is the lead architect behind the design of the PS5, the PS4 and PS4 Pro and other PlayStation hardware. He also has an extensive list of credits behind many beloved PlayStation titles stretching from as old as Disruptor and to as recent as Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
Rumour has it that we will finally see the official annoucement of the PS5 Pro, a mid-gen upgrade similar to last console generation’s PS4 Pro. The rumour began from Billbill-kun, a reputable leaker who broke the news with an illustrative picture of what the new console will look like.
An Instagram story promoting PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary had an illustration of a rectangle with three angular lines bisecting it, which doesn’t look like any PS hardware outside of the 2nd-gen PS5 “Sllim” with extra lines, which more or less matches Billbill-kun’s report.
Whether this is true or not, we will find out soon enough.
The PS5 is in its fourth year, first released in late 2020. Somehow, we’re almost at the mid-point of this ninth generation of video game consoles.
