Pragmata, Capcom’s new-IP announced at the start of the 9th-gen console cycle has finally resurfaced and looking like a real game. But that trailer at the June State Of Play broadcast wasn’t the only info drop for this third-person puzzle-action game.
At the June 2025 Capcom Spotlight showcase, we get to see more glimpses of this sci-fi adventure starring Hugh and unlikely android companion nicknamed Diana. This includes the game’s most unique feature, hacking and shooting.
Pragmata will see players control Hugh and Diana at the same time, but now it makes sense how so. When Hugh aims at an enemy, a 5×5 grid puzzle appears on screen. Judging by the way the puzzles are solved, it’s basically a game of Snake, where you have move from the starting position to a specific block on the grid without touching blocks that has been touched. Optional blocks are available and if those are touched, the completed hack not only expose the armour of the enemies, but also can make said exposure last longer.
The puzzle isn’t a seperate mini-game. You do it in real-time. It will be interesting how fun, or frustrating, it would be on tougher encounters, or large encounters with multiple enemies. The footage seen in the Capcom Spotlight showed Hugh and Diana tackling two enemies at the same time, stunning one with a weapon before hacking and shooting another, and then going back to the previously stunned enemy to hack and shoot them next.
At first glance, Pragmata seemed to be a third-person action game similar to the modern Resident Evil games sans the horror elements. But it looks like this game has a neat little trick that is either brilliant, or the makings of a cult favourite at best.
Pragmata will be playable at Gamescom 2025, available for the public to get some hands-on time with.
Pragmata will be out on PS5, PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X|S sometime in 2026.
