Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis Launches Globally This June

Sega announced that Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis now has a release date. It will see a simultaneous launch for both in Japan and for global servers players, and just a few months away from now.

PSO2 NGS as it’s abbreviated is an all-new game built to co-exist with the base free-to-play MMORPG. It’s not a new expansion- there are major system and mechanic changes you will see in New Genesis. It could’ve been a whole new game entirely but it’s not- you can bring certain elements back and forth from the two games.

This was revealed in the latest PSO2 NGS Prologue livestream, which an archive of it with an English dub is available below:

Global players can get a taste of what to expect in PSO2 NGS in the upcoming closed beta test, though it’s available only on PC (Microsoft Store) and requires the Xbox Insider Program app to register. You may need to switch your PC region settings should the app won’t appear for you (for SEA players, changing to Singapore should do the trick).

PSO2 NGS will also have a standalone PC benchmark test that also includes a character creation suite, available ahead of release in late May. The characters can be used for base PSO2, so you can play the base game while waiting for PSO2 NGS’s release.

The simultaneous launch of PSO2 NGS both for Japan and global servers is a big deal, considering the global servers have effectively caught up in terms of content with the Japan servers in a span of only one year of release. PSO2 originally launched in Japan in 2012.

However, the global release will continue to be limited to Xbox and PC platforms. Understandable given that Microsoft contributed a lot on the release of the game outside Japan.

Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis will launch sometime this June globally. The global version will be available on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store) and Xbox.
