Onimusha Is Coming Back In 2026

For the many fans that sighed when Capcom revealed Kunitsugami thinking it was Onimusha, this one is for you. At The Game Awards 2024, Capcom teased Onimusha, Way Of The Sword, set for release in 2026.

Onimusha is an action-RPG series, which back at the time was described as Resident Evil with samurais due to its fixed camera angles and many carry-over game design choices between the two series. At one point, French actor Jean Reno was a playable character, it’s an iconic franchise during the 6th-generation of consoles, the PS2 era, but outside of non-console game spin-offs, Capcom left the series after Onimusha: Dawn Of Dreams in 2006.

Aside from the recent re-release of Onimusha: Warlords in 2019, and the aforementioned spin-offs, the Onimusha series has a 20-year gap. It’s about bloody time.

The teaser shows whoever this protagonist is, they wield a katana and the Oni gauntlet. And there’s plenty of blood split as this lone samurai hacks and slashes the various demons in early Edo period Kyoto.

Onimusha: Way Of The Sword will be out in 2026 for PS5, PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X|S.
