The rumours were true after all. In a post by developer Hello Games’ frontman and all-around humble bloke Sean Murray on Playstation Blog that it will be delayed. No Man’s Sky will now be released on August 9 in North America, August 10 in Europe and August 12 in the UK. No word on when it will be Asia-bound.
The main reason for the delay is polishing. A general term for a lot of things regarding game development, but its outcome is an enjoyable experience on launch. For a massive and ambitious game being done by a small indie studio, which last worked on Dangerous Joe, they need to get it out in perfect order. A lot of hype is riding on No Man’s Sky, so getting it polished to the brim is important.
What’s more disappointing to hear is that some folks are not okay with the delay, to the point of harassing the writer who first broke the news of the rumours. Now Sean himself is a target of such harassments. Thankfully he’s taking it well.
I have received loads of death threats this week, but don't worry, Hello Games now looks like the house from Home Alone #pillowfort

Please, don’t be that guy. If a game gets delayed, it’s a good opportunity to play other games that you probably did have time for. Like Overwatch. It’s really good.
