Nintendo Switch Successor To Be Announced “This Fiscal Year” But Not At June Nintendo Direct

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has announced that the company will be revealing the successor to the Nintendo Switch “within this fiscal year”.

However, the announcement won’t be made in the June 2024 Nintendo Direct. That will be focusing still on upcoming games for the Switch.

Nintendo’s fiscal year starts on April 1, so expect to see the reveal of what is referred generally as the Switch 2 either later this year, or in early 2025.

The Nintendo Switch was first revealed in 2015, referred back then as the Nintendo NX. It was later introduced as the Nintendo Switch in 2016 and was made available in March 2017.

Nintendo’s console generation cycle is a bit off compared to Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox, which released their ninth generation consoles, the PS5 and Xbox Series respectively, back in 2020. Nintendo Switch’s predecessor, the Wii U, had a very short lifespan. Though the Switch, with its hybrid console approach, proved to be successful.
