A new trailer for Embark Studios’s Arc Raiders have emerged, based on a recent early tech test that took place back in October.
The game was first announced as a co-op PVE shooter, but has since pivoted to follow the latest trend. Arc Raiders is now a PVPVE extraction shooter.
The gameplay sells it well. the gameplay is now a more slower, tactical third-person shooter (with shoulder camera swaps). Players can utilise sound to detect potential hostiles, which can be other players, raiders as the game calls them. Players can communicate with each other via a chat wheel, which includes prompts to split the loot and team up. Or just shoot each other.
The genre shift means folks who were sold on the reveal trailer two years ago may not be the target audience for this game anymore, as extraction shooters is a more high-risk, intense gameplay where you can lose all your gear if you don’t extract successfully. It’s a natural evolution of battle royales, and also showed that The Division’s Dark Zone was ahead of its time.
Arc Raiders is set to release in 2025 for the PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), and Xbox Series X|S.
