New Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Shows Vehicle Customisation And Gadget Loadout In Action

Sega dropped a new trailer for its upcoming racing game, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.

The sub-2-minute trailer shows how the arcade racer handles its vehicle customisation, as well as how the gadget loadout (game-changing passive abilities) with some new gameplay footage.

While these details aren’t exactly new, it’s nice to see them paired with new gameplay. Here we see Cream driving a customised car and also the Extreme Gear, the hoverboards first seen in Sonic Riders. Knuckles and Sonic are seen driving differently to take advantage of the gadget loadouts, which can range from making power-ups hit harder to being able to go faster through slick tricks and drifts.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is developed internally by Sonic Team. The racing game is more or less like Mario Kart, even just as chaotic with how power-ups can send front runners to the back throughout a three-lap race. Its main hook is that every second lap, the track changes to a different world. And that despite its name, features more than just the cast of Sonic The Hedgehog. Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga from Like A Dragon, Joker from Persona 5, Steve and Alex (and a Creeper) from Minecraft, Spongebob SquarePants, and the cast from Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will join the roster of playable racers.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will be out on September 25 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The PC versions on Steam and Epic Games Store in Asia will be released one day later, on September 26.
