If you follow the developers of Fallout: New Vegas (and a lot of other great CRPGs) Obsidian, you will notice a lot of hints and teases about some new game.
They have now confirmed the game in question has brought Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, co-creators of the original Fallout, into the company which started out from mostly ex-Black Isle Studios employees. The game will be published by Take-Two’s new indie publishing arm, Private Division.
However, many are still skeptical on Take-Two. The publisher has done micro-transactions in GTA Online, NBA 2K18 toys with micro-transactions that are required to make those long progression grinds shorter and the CEO is still positive that they can make them work in games. Fans of Obsidian are worried that working with the publisher could bring a bad influence.
Obsidian has now confirmed in their forums that the unannounced game will not include micro-transactions.
What we did want to talk about was a question a lot of you have been raising: “Will this upcoming game feature any lootboxes or other microtransactions?”
The answer is simply: “no.” No microtransactions, of any kind, in our game.
The post then mentioned on how Private Division has so far been supportive of giving the team creative freedom. “Private Division has been incredibly supportive of our vision, our creative freedom, and the process by which we work to make RPGs,” the post continued.
Let’s hope this remains true. The return of former Black Isle developers into Obsidian sounds promising, and whatever new RPG the team will be making, let’s hope the new publisher helps make the game better for the players rather than trying new ways to monetise it.
