New Mass Effect Teaser Released On N7 Day

Every November 7, developer BioWare and fans of Mass Effect celebrate N7 Day- the date chosen to match the iconic rank and symbol that protagonist Commander Shepard wears in the first trilogy of the much-loved RPG series.

For N7 Day 2022, BioWare released a teaser that seems to be related to the upcoming new Mass Effect game, still untitled, but definitely in the works.

It’s rather cryptic, and there are plenty of fan theories on the image alone (despite the concept art being an old picture), but Twitter user @eughenia_sh managed to decode the odd noise that can be heard in the video into a discernable message. They were the first to do so among many attempts.

The Mass Effect Twitter has since posted the clean version of the “intercepted transmission”, a few hours after it has been decoded.

The message is of Liara T’Soni, a companion and important character from the Mass Effect Trilogy, talking to someone… or something? Geth sounds can be heard as Liara says the following:

“Although, they should know by now not to underestimate human defiance!”

Mass Effect 3 had (infamously) three endings that essentially make it hard to set up a new story in the same galaxy, which is why for Mass Effect Andromeda, the story side-step Mass Effect 3’s aftermath by setting it in the Andromeda galaxy. Will Liara, and more of the cast from the original trilogy make a comeback? And will Andromeda has any ties with this new game? Even the N7 Day post by BioWare made the “face is tired” joke in reference to Andromeda.

We still know very little about what the new Mass Effect (Mass Effect 4? Mass Effect 5? Mass Effect [insert subtitle here]?) is, even with this teaser, but it has a decent team working on the project, which now includes former Eidos Montreal writer Mary De Marle.
