New Locations, Characters And Gameplay Mechanics For Stranger Of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin Revealed

More new info for the upcoming action RPG souls-like Stranger Of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin has just been released today.

The upcoming game by Koei Tecmo and Square Enix revealed new locations, characters and gameplay mechanics that will feature in the game.

Players can expect to visit the town of Pravoka, located “over the northern bridge of the continent”. There’s also a seaport in the town situated inside a cave, where you can find a moored pirate ship.

Speaking of pirates, you will meet Pirate Captain Bikke, the de-facto leader of Pravoka who fights with a two-handed axe.

The members of the ruling court of Cornelia has also been revealed, including the King Of Cornelia, Queen Jayne, their daughter Mia and Minister Lagone. The King Of Cornelia believes our main hero Jack and his friends might be the Warriors Of Light.

There are two gameplay mechanics that you can now expect in the battle system of the full game. There’s a break gauge (the yellow coloured gauge) for enemies and Jack. It’s like the posture system in Sekiro, or the guard gauge in fighting games.

The gauge will deplete if Jack blocks attacks, and you can deplete enemies’ gauges by continuous combos and abilities. Jack will be stunned if his gauge break breaks, and enemies can be insta-killed if you break theirs.

The other is instant abilities. If you block an ability with a purple name, you can use that ability against enemies with no MP use. It’s a parry system of sorts, but your counter-hit is using their abilities back at them. One example is stealing Fire from a bomb, which if you successfully land it three times, causes the bomb to self-destruct.

Also, what’s the bonfire equivalent in Stranger Of Paradise? Cubes. Touch a cube to restore HP and MP and restock your potions, at the cost of having all the enemies respawn. And as expected, your last touched cube is the respawn point if your party is wiped.

Stranger Of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin will be out on March 18, 2022 for the PS4, PS5, PC (Epic Games Store), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
