Grid (2019) is shaping up to be a nice new entry that possibly can capture the magic that was the original Race Driver: Grid. Codemasters have shown off some new gameplay, featuring the new street track location Havana and brand-spanking-new car to the franchise.
The car is a 2018 Cadillac DPi-V.R , which races in the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship based in the United States. It’s kind of like an LMP1 prototype, the aero shape is reminiscent to the top-flight Le Mans racers, but with specs suited for a different championship. And to see it ripping through a street track is pretty wild.
Alongside the Cadillac, the Acura DPi is also coming to Grid. A list of new confirmed cars can be found in the latest Codies Blog post here.
Here’s the gameplay video, which also shows off the Nemesis system in action, and has some recognisable AI drivers. One of which is the game’s consultant, two-time F1 world champion Fernando Alonso. As you can see, Alonso knows a thing or two when it comes to DPi cars, he won the Dayton 24 Hours once in one.
Grid (2019) will be rubbing and racing (but hopefully not punting others out) to the stores on October 15th for the PS4, PC (Steam) and Xbox One. It will also be available on Stadia on launch.
