Here’s a surprise. NetherRealm Studios has revealed that they are testing out cross-platform play functionality for Mortal Kombat 11. Sorry, “Krossplay”.
We’ll be testing out a Krossplay feature for PS4 & Xbox One as part of the latest patch. Keep in mind, this is currently in beta form so please bear w/ us as we continue to work on it. Stay tuned for more details & timing on Krossplay availability. https://t.co/xUiHx1dTIS

Cross-play would enable PS4 and Xbox One players play in online Kasual modes as well as designated Krossplay Online Rooms.
However, there is no way for you to invite a friend from the other platform in-game. You will need to co-ordinate which rooms to enter via external methods. At the moment it’s just PS4 and Xbox One, no plans for cross-play to work on PC, Switch or Stadia.
And this only covers cross-play, not cross-save. You cannot transfer progress from multiple platforms.
Krossplay is opt-in. Go to the online menu, and highlight the Kasual modes. At the top right of the screen should be a toggle to enable or disable it.

Cross-play is slowly being adopted in various multiplayer games. All of the four main platforms- Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo and the wild-west of PC- have open their gates. And it’s good to see more game developers start to explore the opportunity. Especially fighting games, that really need a bigger online player pool.
