Monster Hunter Wilds’ Street Fighter 6 Collab Lets Akuma Throw Hands Against Monsters

New Monster Hunter Wilds content has just dropped. And it’s a collab with Capcom’s other big series: Street Fighter. Street Fighter 6, in particular.

The special, permanent, collab adds a new side mission, Ultimate Strength, featuring Akuma as he appeared in Street Fighter 6. Available for HR21 hunters or higher, this is triggered by talking to Quinn at the Oilwell Basin Base Camp.

Completing Ultimate Strength as well as the arena quests Demonic Strength and True Strength unlocks the following:

  • “Akuma” hunter full armor set and layered equipment
  • “Blanka-Chan” Palico full armor set and layered equipment
  • Hunter Profile background, nameplate, and pose

Having your feline companion cosplay as Blanka-Chan is cute and all, but the Akuma armour set is where it’s at. Sure, you can dress up as Akuma as a cosmetic via armoured layers, but if you equip the actual gear, and the full set, you get access to unique items and gestures which basically lets you do Akuma’s SF6 moves. In the item bar, there’s an “Assisted Combo: Akuma” option which lets you do three different Assisted Combo chain of attacks.

Want to spam fireball like a lousy shoto player? Akuma’s Gou Hadouken replaces the Slinger, and uses Slinger ammo. It can even be used during Assisted Combos.

Heck, you can even pull Gou Shoryuken, which is gesture, and it does damage. Better add it to the custom radial menu. And this also can work during Assisted Combos, which turns it into an enhanced Gou Shoryuken.

They even recreated the Drive Impact, which can behave as an offset attack. But you’ll spend Drive Gauge for using it. Given the move’s role in SF6 as a guard break of sorts, it checks out.

And yes, you can even pull of the Shun Goku Satsu, that move where Akuma ends with the pose and the Ten kanji, emblazoned on his back.

Essentially, Monster Hunter Wilds have went about and created a new way to hunt monsters, repurposing odd mechanics to replicate Akuma’s SF6 moveset. And you’re using SF6 moves against these big monsters. Wild.

Check out the manual here for a brief of Akuma’s moveset in Monster Hunter Wilds.

The collab content is permanent, so you can complete these quests and unlock Akuma at any time.

In addition to the free content, more paid cosmetic DLCs have been made available for purchase, all themed around Street Fighter 6. From gestures to turn your Hunter into a shoto to outfits for your handler Alma and make her cosplay as Chun-Li and Cammy.

The Street Fighter 6 collab content and paid DLC for Monster Hunter Wilds is now live.

Monster Hunter Wilds is out now on PS5, PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X|S. Check out our review of the game here.
