Monster Hunter Wilds New Trailer Shows New Gameplay, Characters And More

Capcom revealed a new trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds, the upcoming new entry to the Monster Hunter series, at the Summer 2024 State Of Play broadcast.

The new look gives us more of a glimpse of the Forbidden Lands. The biomes in this entry can change dramatically. The trailer shows the desert region called Windward Plains, and it can change from being a lush, vibrant region to a harshly lit one. And with the changes in climate, so are the availability of monsters and wildlife.

The trailer shows off some actual monster hunting, as we get to see the hunter pulls out two weapons and show off some new moves.

On that note, Capcom has revealed in a press release that 14 weapon types from past Monster Hunter games return to Monster Hunter Wilds. And they are:

  • Great Sword
  • Long Sword
  • Sword & Shield
  • Dual Blades
  • Hammer
  • Hunting Horn
  • Lance
  • Gunlance
  • Switch Axe
  • Charge Blade
  • Insect Glaive
  • Light Bowgun
  • Heavy Bowgun
  • Bow

The weapons types have new moves just like the great sword has, and then there’s the new Focus Mode, which allow players to sim attacks or guard abilities.

Monster Hunter Wilds is also keeping the Slinger tool so you can fire off various ammunition directly as projectiles or to trigger objects in the environment. But there’s also the Hook Slinger which lets you grab materials from afar, even while on a mount.

The trailer shows off a few of the characters you will be interacting in Monster Hunter Wilds. Palicos are back, of course. The hunter’s handler in this game is Alma, the one with the glasses. The blonde lady is Gemma, the resident smithy. And there’s the young boy Nata.

And of course, there’s the monsters. There plenty of new monsters native to the Forbidden Lands. Expect to hunt them over and over and use their drops to create new weapons and armour to hunt more monsters, the typical gameplay loop of the monster hunting genre in which this series practically invented.

Monster Hunter Wilds releases in 2025 for the PS5, PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X|S.
