MLB The Show 21, Developed By Sony San Diego Studio, Coming To PlayStation And Xbox With Cross-Play (But No Free Next-Gen Upgrade)

If you’re a fan of baseball, the only way to play the baseball game with Major League Baseball license is to have a PlayStation console. MLB The Show series is developed by San Diego Studio, a Sony first-party developer. And has always only available on a Playstation console since 2006.

But in the case of games going more multi-platform than ever, this year’s MLB The Show 21 will be coming to PlayStation and Xbox consoles. With cross-play across all platforms.

What a future we live in.

However, for whatever reason, MLB The Show 21 will not have a free next-gen upgrade. If you are buying the game on the PS4/Xbox One, you’ll have to pay another full price for the PS5/Xbox Series X|S versions. The Xbox Wire and PlayStation Blog posts ask you to wait for the announcement of a Collector’s Edition that will include the current and next-gen versions as a bundle.

Sports games are always like this for whatever reason. EA’s FIFA 21 and 2K’s NBA 2K21 do not offer straight-forward free next-gen upgrade.

MLB The Show 21 will be out on April 20 (nice) for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
