We live in interesting times nowadays, where we are somehow being much closer to what George Orwell envisioned in his book that is older than the first ever portable mechanical typewriter. Somehow his vision of dystopian society still rings true in the modern consensus.
So color me surprised to see the folks at False Memory Dept. and their publisher TwoCakesStudio, are working on a story-driven game that’s based on the classic novel and plays like a mixture of Reigns and Papers,Please, with your choices matter as you play along the story beats. And this game is called MINISTRY OF TRUTH: 1984.
The game will let players pick and choose what they want the public to see, as part of the Ministry that involves editing historical documents, and balance between loyalty and self-awareness, ambition and empathy, as Big Brother watches you on.
The developers are hosting a Public Playtest on 16 February, inviting newcomers to become officials of the Ministry of Truth, and to decide whether to obey or fight against the regime. This will also include full localization into 22 languages, controller support, English voice acting, and enhanced technical capabilities with support for ultra-wide displays, alongside Linux and Steam Deck compatibility.
You can check out the game on their Steam page and apply for the Playtest here. The game is set to launch sometime during Q2 of 2026 on PC via Steam.
