A new trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine emerged to close out the September 2025 State Of Play broadcast. It tells one clear thing about the latest game by Insomniac: there’s going to be blood and gore, a lot.
If you’ve played Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man games you might be questioning this might even happen—the Spider-Man games tend to shy away from real bloodshed.
But here you see Wolverine skewering his adamantium claws right into a person’s head from the jaw to the skull. There are limb dismemberment too. Ouchies.
The gameplay trailer shows our flawed mutant who struggles with his powers, and his memories, and snippets of his adventures spanning from the Canadian wilderness to Japan, fighting various people with some sort of sci-fi military getup.
We also get to see Wolverine in his full suit, a new design for Marvel’s Wolverine but still iconic enough for anyone who’s only knowledge of the character is the original X-Men films, or the X-Men animated series, or the Marvel VS. Capcom fighting games, to know it’s him.
Similar to Marvel Tōkon Fighting Souls, there’s an extra behind-the-scenes footage, talking about how Insomniac was determined to get its depiction of violence making the cut and an interview with the voice of this Wolverine, Liam McIntyre. Hey, it’s another Australian actor portraying Wolverine.
With Ghost Of Yōtei launching next week, it’s a good time for PlayStation Studios to unveil its slate of upcoming games for 2026. Saros will be up first, releasing in March. Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls will be sometime next year as well.
Meanwhile, Marvel’s Wolverine will take up the Autumn (Q4, September the earlies) slot of 2026 for the PS5.
