Lenovo Malaysia has revealed its full suite of Lenovo Legion gaming laptop and PC line for 2020.
Lenovo revealed the Legion 5i and 7i gaming laptops earlier this year, and those are coming here. On top of that are a few more models- the more gaming-focused Legion 5Pi, and the AMD Ryzen-powered Legion 5.
(The “i” in the new Legion naming scheme stands for “Intel”.)
The 2020 Legion line looks fairly subtle in the visual changes, but most of the changes here are on the inside, and done based on customer feedback.
The keyboards now uses Truestrike keyboard switches, which are still membrane keyboards but feels closer to Lenovo’s Thinkpad line with its soft-landing switches. Lenovo claims that it should have 100% anti-ghosting (every keypress is registered) and double the response time of the previous Legion models’ default keyboard.
The keyboard layout is also changed- it has a full numpad with the arrow keys not aligned. A good way, though not as obvious way, to tell the new 2020 models from last year’s. RGB is supported in some models.
Besides that, there are also improvements to the cooling performance, dubbed Coldfront 2.0. It’s a method of using both hardware and software solutions to reduce heat.
On the hardware side, there are now multi-array sensors on various parts of the laptop that detect temperature. The top-of-the-line Legion laptops even has vapour chambers.
On the software side, there’s improvements to Lenovo Q-Control- now dubbed Lenovo Q-Control 3.0- which expands to one-press overclocking rather than just fan speed changes.
Also, Lenovo is committed with improving the battery life, now with the integration of Nvidia’s Advanced Optimus tech. The laptops can switch from using GPU to an integrated GPU within the CPU that, while has less performance, also uses less power hence more battery life.
