Late last year, it was reported that League Of Legends developers Riot were sueing Mobile Legends developers Moonton over how similar the latter’s mobile MOBA is to the former.
As the case unfolds, it was dismissed by the Central District Court of California to move the case to a more convenient location. The case was moved to Shanghai and Riot’s parent company Tencent took the reigns on pursuing charges over a non-disclosure and non-compete lawsuit, naming Xu Zhenhua- CEO of Moonton, but not Moonton directly.
The end result was the court in favour of Tencent, with Moonton having to pay 19.4 miilion Chinese Yuan, roughly $2.9 miilion USD (roughly RM11.7 million).
That may not be the end of the legal troubles for the Mobile Legends developers, as Tencent’s Chinese mobile MOBA Kings Of Glory, otherwise known as Arena Of Valor in international markets are reportedly pursuing another lawsuit, this time for additional copyright infringement.
