Larian Studios have revealed a physical release for the critical acclaimed CRPG Baldur’s Gate 3. Originally only released digitally, the Deluxe Edition will include a physical copy of the game, spread across multiple discs for the console versions.
The PS5 version of Baldur’s Gate 3 has two discs, while the Xbox Series version has three discs. Take that, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
More importantly, the discs versions are playable as is, with no extra download necessary to launch the game, so that’s plus points for preservation.
The PC version of Baldur’s Gate 3 Deluxe Edition does contain a disc which contains a CD key and an installer (just like the good old days). However, game download is still required before playing, as this copy contains the Steam version.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Deluxe Edition also contains all the extra goodies from the Digital Deluxe Edition, as well as various other physical goodies inlcuding a map, patches, a poster, a game box (that matches the size of Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2 CDs if you have those around) and 3 CDs worth of music from the game’s original soundtrack.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Deluxe Edition is priced at $80 USD. So this is for the hardcore fans that willing to spend more than usual for the extra goodies, and from that perspective it’s a bargain. But there is no way of getting just the standard version with only the game in discs just yet.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is out now on PS5 and PC and is coming soon to Xbox Series X|S.
