Kitten Space Agency Pre-Alpha Garners 2 Million Players, $100,000+ USD In Contributions In Two Weeks Of Launch

Kitten Space Agency is off to a rocket start as developer RocketWerks announced that in the first two weeks of the pre-alpha launch, the space rocket building and flying sim has over 2 million players.

Not only that, Kitten Space Agency (KSA) has also garnered over $100,000 USD in community contributions through the Ahwoo platform.

The KSA pre-alpha is free, which definitely bolstered the player-count. But there are thousands of players willing to put money in the game already. 3,200 contributors, as a matter of fact.

Ahwoo is another PC platform that isn’t Steam and was basically unheard of before KSA. Ahwoo now has more than 43,000 accounts made after the KSA pre-alpha launch. Not Steam numbers by any chance, but a significant number for an alternative PC games distribution platform no less.

Kitten Space Agency is a space rocket building and flying simulator not too dissimilar to Kerbal Space Program. RocketWerkz has some big names attached to KSA that lends itself some credibility including:

  • Felipe Falanghe “HarvestR”, original creator of Kerbal Space Program
  • Dean Hall, DayZ creator, RocketWerkz CEO
  • Stefan Moluf, former SpaceX flight software engineer
  • Blackrack, Linx, and Daishi, veteran contributors from the Kerbal Space Program community
  • Jamie Leighton (JPLRepo), previously mod creator-turned-Lead Developer for Kerbal Space Program

KSA is developing with a rapid update cadence, rapid enough where new builds are often released on a daily basis.

Dean Hall says the following about the huge support KSA has garnered so far:

The support for Kitten Space Agency has been incredibly encouraging. We set out to try a more open way of building games and it’s clear people want to be part of that mission.

Contributions through Ahwoo help us keep developing the project, but so does playing our other games like Stationeers or Icarus which help fund the work behind Kitten Space Agency.

However people choose to support us, we’re grateful. It all helps us keep pushing this mission forward.

Dean Hall, CEO, RocketWerkz

Kerbal Space Program 2, while officially still in Early Access, has become dormant ever since the publishing label Private Division was divested from Take-Two. Don’t expect a space race between KSP 2 and KSA on who is going to launch into 1.0 first.

Kitten Space Agency is currently in pre-alpha, available for free via Ahwoo.
