After the Kingdom Hearts III Premier Event last month where the game was presented in a playable form to various outlets, it was announced that the release date will be announced in a month or so. It would either be announced at E3, the obvious choice, or maybe at one of the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra concerts.
It was announced ahead of E3 at the said concert.

A follow-up tweet from the Kingdom Hearts III official Twitter account also has a quote from game director Tetsuya Nomura. “I’m sorry that we’re asking for a little more time than initially planned,” he said. “Please look forward to other information, including a few trailers at E3. Thank you.”
Despite all promotion materials have mentioned that it will be out in 2018, the release date will miss the window, opting to release at the end of January. This one-month delay is something we’ve seen being pulled by Square Enix. Final Fantasy XV had a big unveiling event with a confirmed release date of Spetember 2016, but a two-month delay pushed it back to November.
Kingdom Hearts III will be out on January 29th for the PS4 and the Xbox One.
