John Romero’s Next Game Is Sigil, A Free Mod For The Original Doom

John Romero, co-creator of the Doom series, has announced that his new project under Romero Games. Called Sigil, it’s a free megawad for the original 1993 PC release of Doom.

For the uninitiated, megawad is a term used in the Doom modding community that refers to a huge mod that replaces the levels. In this case, Sigil will have 9 new singleplayer maps and 9 new multiplayer maps. It also features music from Buckethead.

This is the unofficial sequel to Doom: Episode 4, the game description reads.

Since this is a free mod, anyone with a copy of the original Doom, released 25 years ago, can download it for free when it launches in mid-February 2019. Physical editions of the game, with limited quantities produced by Limited Run, can also be pre-ordered.

Previously, Romero Games released Gunman Taco Truck, where the whole Romero family, including John’s son Donovan, involved in making it.
