Injustice 2 Officially Announced, Brawl As Your Favourite DC Superhero With Customizable Gear

With the release of Mortal Kombat XL, developers NetherRealm Studios seems to have wrap up their development with Mortal Kombat X, a very successful fighting game for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.

It looks like the follow-up to Injustice: Gods Among Us, the 2013 game before Mortal Kombat X, will be getting a sequel. Leaks have appeared beforehand, but now, on the Playstation blog, the reveal is made official.

Here’s the announcement trailer that showcases some of DC’s popular superheroes brawl against each other while showing the new gameplay feature for Injustice 2: a gear system.

As explained in the blog post, the gear system is an RPG-like mechanic that can be acquired as loot drops. This character-specific gears dramatically alter your heroes (or villains), both visually (those LED glows look interesting) and in gameplay terms. Some may feel uneasy of forcing loot drops and other outside factors affecting the purity of gameplay fighting games usually focuses on, and it won’t be a surprise if micro-transactions can be sneaked into this new system.

The developers teased that the story will also be a direct continuation of the last Injustice, where it was set in a world where Superman was tricked into killing Lois Lane, a nuclear bomb exploded in Metropolis, and Superman became a dictator figure. We’ll see how it goes.

Until we see some proper gameplay and more clarification on how the gear system works it’s hard to be excited for passionate folks that are in the fighting game community. If you are just a casual fan, enjoy the first Injustice and just want to re-enact some Batman V Superman battles, be excited as Injustice 2 lands on the PS4 and Xbox One in 2017.
