It’s incredible to see the advancement of tech products flying pass quickly. Like only a few odd years ago, we had microphones that finally goes all-in with a USB Type-C connector, now it’s smaller than a water bottle and just as clear as those in the higher price range.
The HyperX Solocast 2 is one that perhaps is standing out withing the USB microphone scene, by being a compact choice with a design that’s has everything thought-out for. And it’s in black (or white if you see them at store), which is always a plus.
How did the short-stuff do, in my opinion? Quite well, I must say.
Hardware
The Solocast 2 is quite a small microphone, at a length of 17.4 cm x 9.7 cm x 7.8 cm, (sans a stand) its design is snug enough to rival the likes of a Seiren Mini, for example, and that it already includes a built-in pop-filter and its able tilt to at least 8 to 12 degrees of rotation. All of which is perfect for casual conversations or even professional recording.
It’s sole button on the entire thing is the non-descript top one, where you could mute/unmute yourself in an instant. Stuff like adjusting the gain, or adding a filter is done via the Hyper NGENUINTY app, which we will get to in a sec. All of the important bits is highlighted via a single red LED down at the bottom, which disappears when you mute and vice versa.
Audio Quality
Here’s some short testing that I did via OBS and Discord’s Mic tester. Without any fuss, it works well for streaming and/or recording gameplay using these sorts of software.
And it works well on the likes of a PlayStation 5 if you want to get better clarity within them in-game chats.
Software![]()
The NGENUITY app is a bit of a hit and miss, for myself anyway. It’s there you could tweak the mic’s settings, like the Mic Gain and Equalizer. Though we had some trouble with updating the software of the mic via the app, the usual restart solves it and now all of the aforementioned stuff you could do for better gain or clarity is now available.
Though, it’s only one button design that makes this app very essential to adjust anything on the backend of the microphone, which could be an issue should a last-minute adjustment be needed across another PC without the app, but as seen above, the normal mic already does sound already fine without any tweaks. It’s just fascinating to so much packed in a single app.
Value
At its retail value of 299 MYR, this is quite of a steal of a pricing when you compare even its closest rival, and it’s a solid piece of tech already, with how much it has in built-in and how convenient it is when you intend to produce content, be it livestreams or recordings, using it.
Like, what better way to upgrade than something like this one.
Verdict![]()
The HyperX Solocast 2 is a great USB condenser microphone that’s both easy on the wallet side and even quite versatile in both design and usage with how handy it is, in terms of sizes between other bigger USB microphones on the market.
Really, you couldn’t go wrong with this one, for sure.
