Rockstar Games have revealed that players can now transfer their Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online save files ahead of the release of the next-gen console versions on March 15.
Interestingly, the transfer can be across console families. As in, you can transfer your PS4 save to Xbox Series X|S, or your Xbox One save to PS5.
Note that cross-platform transfers will not carry over purchased GTA$- the in-game currency that is also purchasable through micro-transactions. However, GTA$ earned through in-game activities can be transferred across console platform families.
Currency tied to micro-transactions like this always don’t transfer to other platforms, so this is nothing different, but worth noting.
To transfer your GTA V Story Mode and GTA Online saves, go to the pause menu and in the game tab, select Upload Save. This will upload your save to the Rockstar Games Social Club, and will remain there for 90 days. You can only upload one save per platform at a time, and this is a one-time migration.
The GTA Online content carried over with this save transfer are the following:
- Characters
- GTA$ (except purchased GTA$ when transferring to another console family)
- Progression
- Stats
- Vehicles
- Properties
- Weapons
- Clothing
- Player-Created Jobs
GTA V and GTA Online on next-gen consoles will feature new graphical settings, a ton of graphical upgrades and faster loading times (very important). In addition, the PS5 edition makes use of haptic feedback and dynamic resistances of the DualSense controller. The next-gen editions also make use of 3D audio for PS5, and Spatial Sound on Xbox Series X|S.
