GM GOTY Awards 2022 – Trashfire Award

Why? These games are either objectively the worst or the ones with so much squandered potential. Put in the trashfire where it belongs

The one award category where no games in the Top 30 are nominated here, as these games deserve its own room, downstairs, under the basement of shame.

The Trashfire Award is reserved for us here to remember the clunkers and games we don’t enjoy seeing, playing, and questioning how they managed to be released with all their faults as is.

Trashfire Award “Winners”

  • CrossfireX
  • Babylon’s Fall
  • Chocobo GP
  • Diablo Immortal
  • Overwatch 2

How The Winner Is Decided (Deliberations Summary)

CrossfireX landed on the list for being the same janky cybercafe game you might have played two decades ago. Even a campaign by Remedy couldn’t salvage it.

Babylon’s Fall didn’t live up to what its first few reveal trailer promised. When one expected another banger from Square Enix and PlatinumGames, after their last collab was the first GM Game Of The Year, it ended up so much less, and there’s an expiry date already for this live service game.

Another Square Enix entry here is Chocobo GP. This is apparently a live service game as well. And apparently, it too didn’t do well with servers shutting down (which also means no more micro-transactions).

Diablo Immortal lands here for its egregious monetisation. With folks spending over thousands of dollars just to keep up with the endgame content, we just cannot stomach it.

And finally, we have another Blizzard game, Overwatch 2. This could have been an update. In fact, it is. The original game has been replaced with this. The meta not being to our liking as the gameplay strays further from what and why we adore this game back at launch is neither here nor there. The big culprit here is how it somehow made loot boxes more attractive due to the egregious season pass grind.

Trashfire Award “Winner”

There are no winners here. Nobody wins, we all lose.
