Geek Fam Edges Out Fire Dragoon To Emerge Malaysian Champions For Asia Pacific Predator League 2018

The end of the Malaysian leg of the Asia Pacific Predator League was held at MidValley Megamall, Kuala Lumpur last weekend. The Dota 2 tournament has RM55,000 worth of prize pool up for grabs, with the winner taking RM25,000 and a the honour to represent the country for the Asia Pacific Predator League.

From 180 competing teams, it all boiled down to eight teams at the Grand Finals. Two teams made it to the finals, the newly-reformed Fire Dragoon team featuring ex-Fnatic players that played in this year’s The International (though there has been some changes after the announcement), and Geek Fam, first appeared at last year’s ESL One Genting, but this iteration of the team is completely new.

Geek Fam proved to be the superior lineup, edging out Fire Dragoon after five hours of play, making them the Malaysian champion.

“The game was fun and interesting, and this Malaysia Final was intense,” said Geek Fam owner Lim “Sheep” Keat Kuang. “The win was particularly sweet for Geek Fam as we are a new team, formed just six weeks ago.”

The teams all played on the Acer Predator Helios 300 gaming laptop. “It was a good game and the machines were good; there was no delay or lag, giving us a smooth play,” added Sheep.

Fire Dragoon finished second, taking RM10,000 in cash. The six other finalists that reached the Grand Finals are:

  • New Beginning
  • Objective Gaming
  • Team Flash
  • Team Highground
  • Team Thinker
  • Estar

Geek Fam, a squad comprimising of two Filipino players (Skemberlu, Playhard) and three Malaysians (Chyuan, Oli, March) will represent Malaysia when the Asia Pacific Predator League kicks off in January next year, competing with six other nations with up to $150,000 USD of prize pool up for grabs.
