Gears Of War: Reloaded Releasing On Xbox, PC And PS5 This August

The remaster of Gears Of War, Gears Of War Reloaded will launch this August. And it’s also coming to PS5.

The remaster will feature 4K resolution and 120 FPS support, as well as cross-progression and cross-play for multiplayer. The remaster is based on the Ultimate Edition of the original, so it includes all post-launch DLC: bonus Campaign act, all multiplayer maps and modes and all of the characters and cosmetics.

Released in 2026 and originally developed by Epic Games (yes, the developer now known for Fortnite), Gears Of War was a powerhouse of a series that was at the forefront of the third-person cover shooter games that defined the 7th-gen (Xbox 360/PS3) consoles era.

And for one generation of console, the abbreviation “GOW” was mostly referred to the Gears Of War series. The series waned in popularity and by the 8th-gen consoles era, PlayStation successfully revived God Of War with its soft-reboot yet hard-sequel released in 2018, and later games in the Gears Of War has since adopted the Gears moniker, including the latest numbered entry, Gears 5.

The remaster is developed by The Coalition (the current caretakers of the Gears franchise) with support from Sumo Interactive and Disbelief.

Xbox continues its push as a third-party publisher and developer as it releases more of its first-party offerings on multiple platforms. And this is the second Xbox game coming to PlayStation which has a similar series name. Forza Horizon was to the Horizon series just as Gears Of War is to God Of War. Not that it’s the same game, but they share an abbreviation or shorthand.

More importantly, Xbox says you won’t need a Microsoft account to play Gears Of War Reloaded, even for online multiplayer. But having an account and logging is used for cross-progression, should you want to hop on different platforms playing the same game across Xbox, PlayStation and Steam. A feature Forza Horizon 5 doesn’t have.

And to sweeten the deal, if you own a digital copy of Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition (before May 7 12 AM Malaysia Time GMT+8), the remaster is free. Of course, it’s technically free for those subscribed to Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass as the game, like all Xbox first-party games, launch straight to Game Pass.

And if you are looking to buy it, it’s half the price of a premium game ($39.99 USD). Yes, that’s half, as Xbox plans to release $80 USD games by the end of the year. How did this generation of consoles get two price hikes for premium games?

Gears Of War: Reloaded releases on August 26 for the PS5, PC (Steam, Microsoft Store) and Xbox Series X|S.
