Looks like Xbox are getting more friendlier with PC. A new post on the Xbox Wire by Xbox Chief Phil Spencer highlighted on the new approaches that the Microsoft gaming brand is taking for the PC market. And this includes selling more of their Xbox first-party titles outside of the Microsoft Store.
On that note, Spencer revealed that Gears 5 and Age Of Empires I,II and III Definitive Editions will be arriving on Steam. Alongside the Master Chief Collection which is coming soon, these are among the 20 Xbox games that will be on Steam. Though Xbox is open to having them on other stores as well.
“We know millions of PC gamers trust Steam as a great source to buy PC games and we’ve heard the feedback that PC gamers would like choice,” the post reads. ” We also know that there are other stores on PC, and we are working to enable more choice in which store you can find our Xbox Game Studios titles in the future.”
Gears 5 would be the first time the iconic cover-shooter series to grace Steam- previous titles were only available on the Microsoft Store. Age Of Empires series are already present on Steam, but those are slight remasters of the original games to run on modern systems. The Definitive Editions are more elaborate remasters.
The post also talks about having cross-play among PC and consoles, which is definitely in their vision, as well as support for Win32 games. There will also be a separate Xbox Game Pass subscription for PC, with a different catalogue of 100 games.
