As every soulslike fan gathers hyped and ready for the one and only expansion to Elden Ring, Shadow Of the Erdtree, there is a question of what’s next for developer FromSoftware.
And according to an interview via IGN Japan, speaking to Elden Ring game director and FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki, we can probably expect more Armored Core.
“The Armored Core series is very important to FromSoftware,” Miyazaki said, as translated by FandomWire. “We have a strong will to continue it in the future.”
Miyazaki also describes the latest Armored Core game, Armored Core VI Fires Of Rubicon, “a success” but also that “not everything was perfect, and there is still room for improvement.”
The Armored Core series was previously the biggest series FromSoftware, a developer known for making just about any kind of game from split-screen party games (The Adventures Of Cookie & Cream) to horror-adventures (Echo Night) and everything in between. The mecha action series went dormant following the success of Dark Souls and the birth of the soulslikes, only to reappear 10 years later with AC VI.
Miyazaki’s first credited work at FromSofware was for Armored Core Last Raven, and his first role as director was for the fast-paced Armored Core 4.
Fans of mecha action games should be happy, as the wait for more Armored Core is likely going to be less than 10 years this time. Hopefully Armored Core VI does get an expansion DLC like all the past numbered title has had.
Armored Core VI Fires Of Rubicon is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Check out our review of the game here.
