Japan-based developer Historia (the makers of The Caligula Effect 2 on PC, Live A Live and more) have announced the release date of their next game, Faaast Penguin.
Faaast Penguin (not a typo) is a free-to-play “racing royale” where 40 players race on obstacle course tracks to be the first to cross the finish line. They do this as penguins, belly-sliding through the course, with the ability to attack rivals, take on shortcuts and, with enough sardine cans collected, use Ultimate Rides to get ahead of the competition.
Faaast Penguin supports matchmaking for solo players and a party of up to 4 players to race together. Custom matches are also available. The game supports cross-platform via Epic Online Services. So you do need to have an Epic Games account to play Faaast Penguin.
As it is with most free-to-play titles, Faaast Penguin lets you customise the look of your pengiun with a cornocopia of customisation options, all of them being cosmetic.
If what you’ve read so far has you conclude that this feel a lot like Fall Guys, in some ways yes. Imagine Fall Guys but the mini-game is just the Takeshi’s Castle-inspired obstacle course run. And it controls more like Mario Kart.
Faast Penguin previously held an open beta, with over 10,000 players giving it a go, and based on the survey from those that played the open beta, 90% of those 10,000+ players want to play again. So the game should have a modest playerbase to kickstart its live service.
Faaast Penguin releases on September 19 for the PS5, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store). It will also be released on Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
