Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade Is Coming To Switch 2

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is coming to Nintendo Switch 2. Announced during the Switch 2 Direct, the remake of the biggest RPG that put Square Enix (or rather, Squaresoft as they were at the time) on the global map is coming to the new console.

Note that this isn’t Final Fantasy VII Remake, but Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, the expanded version of the PS4-exclusive that was released on PS5 and PC. Its most significant addition is a new side campaign, Final Fantasy VII Remake Episode Intermission, featuring Yuffie Kisaragi as a playable character before her introduction to the main party in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

The fact that the Switch 2 is getting a port of a PS5 game, with close enough visual quality, should say a lot about the performance of the hybrid console. While the original Switch was significantly underpowered compared to its 8th-gen console contemporaries (PS4, Xbox One), Switch 2 isn’t too far off from the current 9th-gen (PS5, Xbox Series) consoles, which is impressive.

That also mean that trilogy of FFVII remakes (Remake, Rebirth, and the third unannounced title) could all make it to Switch 2. Remake (and Remake Intergrade) and Rebirth have yet to release on Xbox, curiously.

Final Fantasy VII marked Square’s first venture outside of making Nintendo-exclusive game with the original 1997 game a console exclusive on PS1. It was later ported to other consoles, including the original Switch.

Square Enix also announced a remaster of Bravely Default. The original RPG is a Nintendo DS exclusive. Square Enix is among the many third-party publishers with games coming to Switch 2.

There is no release date yet for Final Fantasy VII Intergrade on Switch 2.
