The long-awaited remake of Final Fantasy VII, the first of possibly many parts, is getting delayed. It will now be released one month later, from March 3rd to April 10th, 2020.
A new blog post over on Square Enix’s website announced this, alongside this message from producer Yoshinori Kitase.
“We know that so many of you are looking forward to the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake and have been waiting patiently to experience what we have been working on. In order to ensure we deliver a game that is in-line with our vision, and the quality that our fans who have been waiting for deserve, we have decided to move the release date to April 10, 2020.
“We are making this tough decision in order to give ourselves a few extra weeks to apply final polish to the game and to deliver you with the best possible experience. I, on behalf of the whole team, want to apologize to everyone, as I know this means waiting for the game just a little bit longer.
“Thank you for your patience and continued support.”
The delay will see the stacked month of April to be even more stacked full of AAA game releases. April 3rd, the week before, is Capcom’s remake of Resident Evil 3. The week after FVII Remake, on April 16th, is CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077.
First revealed at E3 2015, Final Fantasy VII Remake had quite the development to get to this point. And this close-to-release-date delay is something we’ve seen before with Square Enix- Final Fantasy XV got one too.
Square Enix is also delaying Marvel’s Avengers, which was supposed to be out on May 15th, to September 4th.
